Pie > Cake: Maple-Walnut Apple Pie

At least this pie survives being forgotten about a little better than cakes. For that reason, pie > cake.

This one tastes like French Toast, and takes about 10 minutes to prepare.

Pie Filling
What you need:
1 Frozen Deep Pie Crust
7 apples (I like to mix the Granny Smith with some red ones like Red Delicious or Fuji), peeled, cored and sliced thin.
4 tablespoons of real Maple Syrup
1/2-3/4 cups of Brown Sugar
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 cup of walnuts (chopped or ground into a butter)

Dutch Crumbly Topping
What you need:
1 cup of flour
1 cup of Brown Sugar
4 tablespoons of butter, softened
1-2 tablespoons of milk

Step 1. Take the crust out of the freezer to thaw. Preheat the oven to 375.

Step 2. Peel, core and slice your apples. Add in the rest of the filling ingredients and mix so that the apple slices are coated in yummy goodness.

Step 3. Pour the flavored apple slices into the thawed crust.

Step 4. Make the topping in a mixing bowl. I usually mix the dry ingredients with the butter with a fork or my fingers. Add in the milk after the rest are pretty well combined (no big pieces of brown sugar or butter). The milk really is only used to make the topping slightly sticky, not doughy. Use sparingly.

Step 5. Pour the topping onto the pie, and cover with a sheet of foil. This will prevent the topping from burning.

Step 6. Place the covered pie on a cooking sheet that you cover with foil (for easy clean up). Bake for 30 minutes.

Step 7. Remove the foil and return the pie to the oven. Let it finish baking for another 30 minutes uncovered.

Let cool and enjoy! :)
