For cooking in a gamer friendly manner, I highly recommend investing in an inexpensive, and easy to clean small (4 quart) crock pot. These are basically devices that will slowly cook your meals, producing some really juicy dishes.
A great feature about them, is that if you live in a dorm, you can still eat real food. They are like an improved hot pot. While your friends are eating the questionable items served in the cafeteria, you could be eating pot roast, stew, pulled pork, and even fajitas!
As an example, I use this one that goes for around $20 at Target or Wal-Mart.

I like it because the ceramic pot comes out of the cooker base and you can soak it if necessary. Much easier for cleanup.
Clear advantages for crock pot cooking, are that it is hard to really ruin something in a slow cooker, and cheaper cuts of meat can be used with great results.
The only real disadvantage is that you have to remember to get stuff going before you go to class or play games. These are called slow cookers for a reason.
Check out one of my favorite things for the crock pot, in the "pulled pork" recipe.
